What Happiness Means to Me

Hello to those still reading my posts and are still with me on the blogging road. It’s been an interesting journey so far. I never would have thought that I would find a place to do this kind of thing, posting random blogs or posts. But, it’s so much fun! Actually, blogging, or writing in general, has always been something that made me happy. And if you haven’t guessed from the title of this post, I want to talk about happiness.

To us humans, happiness comes in all shapes and sizes. From the tiniest trinket to something as big as a great accomplishment in our lives. Me, for example, I like to play video games and sing. My happy place is when I get to do these things. I can game for hours and be totally immersed in an imaginary world where all the cares of the world kind of just… disappears. And when I am singing, I feel the world around me just dissolve and BOOM, I am in my own world. And of course, I mentioned writing as one of the things that make me happy. Creating a world from scratch that obeys my laws and my ideas is such a great feeling! I’ve written TONS of stuff that I never get to finish. I keep getting a new idea and then leaving it. I have a serious problem with that. But every new idea that I get makes me incredibly happy and excited!

With all the technology that is available to us, it’s easy to find happiness on a small screen or in a really awesome playlist. Sometimes we take for granted all the simple pleasures that the world, even life, has to offer. You know that really great hiking trail in the woods not too far from your house? You remember that yummy food cart stand down town that you want to tell everyone about? Can you remember that feeling you got when you and your crush brushed hands by accident and had a soapy, drama-like moment where everything fades and it’s just the two of you? Or maybe you can recall or imagine the moment when you and the love of your life say “I Do” at the altar where your friends and family are just smiling and cheering? Cheesy right? But I don’t think I’m wrong. These are cause for tons of happiness! The simple stuff… Insert smiley emoji here.

I’m the type of person who finds that the little things can be pretty rewarding. Honestly, though, I’m a total weirdo. I get easily amused and all that, but I have my moments. Shoot, every day I’m on Facebook and I’m laughing at the craziest memes and videos. And you know what, it makes me quite happy. C’mon, some of you do it too. And it’s okay! You know what, in a world where bad things are increasingly happening, we make do. We gotta find the while lily that grows among all the mud.

Okay, so I’m kind of trying to butter you all up for what I really want to talk about in this post. I’ll approach this in small steps. We all want to be happy of course. But to get there, it takes action. Okay maybe someone out there is lucky enough to have happiness just drop right in front of them. But for the rest of us, we MAKE OUR OWN happiness. We must be the ones to get it for ourselves. If there’s doubt that maybe you’ll be judged for your happiness or others won’t approve, FORGET them. Cause it’s not gonna be them that’s stopping you from happiness, it’s you. And here is where I’ll tell you why I say these things. And typing this out right at this moment has gotten my heart beating so fast and I’m even trembling a little bit. But it has to be said. For the sake of my own happiness… right? So here it goes… I. Am. Gay. Yep, this was a coming out post! Many of you who already know me may not even be surprised. And for the rest of the world, THIS IS ME.

Many others before have done this kind of thing through videos. But, videos aren’t my strong suit. I’m not very photogenic, to be honest. So, why not do it in the form of a blog post? But man, it does feel good to get it off my chest. Being almost thirty years old, I thought, it was time. It was time to get my happiness. And finally admitting this is a HUGE step for me. When I was thinking about writing this post, all I really wanted to do, aside from coming out, was to get people like me, those who have been afraid or have been hiding, to come out and be themselves. And I really want all of those who read this to share the heck out of this post. It’s okay to be you. It’s your happiness on the line.

Who cares if the world judges you. You know who you are. You may lose friends… even family. It can be a very difficult moment in your life. But here’s the thing, real friends and loving family, they wont care. If anything, they’ll support you. They’ll love you. They’ll want you to be happy. Because you deserve it. Happiness is for everyone. So I encourage anyone out there who may be reading this; if you know someone or if you are wanting to come out yourself to reveal the REAL you, please be brave. Allow your happiness to show. And to those who have already stepped out into the real you, support your brothers and sisters. Let’s support each other! If we do that, we can all be happy.

So tell me, what makes you happy? What gives you happiness? Share your thoughts! And if you have any questions, ask. I’ll always be… ~ yours truly, Tim.
